Far Out Books was founded in South Korea in 1999 by novelist, journalist, critic, and teacher Bill Coleman, who was at that time a professor of English Language and Literature at Han Nam University in the city of Taejon. (Thus the slogan “Far Out in the Far East.”) Coleman’s novel Trailer Park Hippies (spring, 1999) was the first book published by Far Out. In 2001, Far Out Books relocated to the U.S. In fall, 2004, Give Me Strength: Battling Addiction, by Steve Dunn (with Coleman as co-author) was published. Bill Coleman is now at work on Hippies on the Hump, the long-awaited sequel to Trailer Park Hippies, with publication scheduled for 2013.
